A woman from the chambli village of Purandar taluka in the Pune district filed a case against her husband after he forcefully married their 13-year-old daughter with someone.
The woman was living in her parent’s home while her husband worked as a daily wager in different villages. The minor girl was living with her father for the last six months, and during that period, he married her daughter without informing anyone, said police.
On 17 June, the girl’s mother, Mamta Pawar, came to know about her marriage through a relative after seeing the photograph of her marriage. The mother immediately launched a complaint in the Saswad police station.
Child marriage in India is illegal. The legal age of marriage for a girl is 18 years and 21 years for a boy.
The police have filed a case against Raju Pawar, Rajkanya Sadashiv Pawar, Abbu Ramesh Pawar, Mukesh Ramesh Pawar, and Ajay Ramesh Pawar under the child marriage law. All the accused are from Asalgaon taluka in the Buldhana district.
