Jammu and Kashmir Prison DG Hemant Kumar Lohia Death Case
Housekeeper murders DG of J&K Prison Hemant Kumar Lohia

Jammu and Kashmir prison director general Hemant Kumar Lohia was found dead at a house in the Udaywala area of Jammu, on 4th October 2022. The house was of his friend’s where Lohia was found dead with slit throat and burn injuries on his body. Lohia was a 1992 batch Indian Police Service(IPS) officer. He was appointed as DGP, prisons, J&K in August 2022.

Lohia’s domestic help, Yasir Lohar (23 years old) was suspected of the murder. He was arrested from a field in Kanachak, around 10 km from the place where the incident happened, following a major all-night  manhunt on Tuesday.

Police said initial investigations did not point towards a terror angle. Though a terror group, People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), claimed responsibility for the murder. Still this angle is overruled as the officials said that these groups shamelessly take responsibility for everything and anything.

According to witnesses which included Hemant’s family members, Lohia was applying oil to his swollen feet in the room when Lohar entered the room and bolted the door from inside. After a few minutes when the family members and guards heard the commotion, they broke out into the room where Lohia was found bleeding from neck and his body on fire as the domestic help tried to burn Lohia with a pillow.

The preliminary investigation showed that the police officer must have defended the attack as signs of scuffle were present. And a broken bottle of ketchup was used to slit the throat.

Lohar was working in the house for the last six months and till now it has been found that he was very aggressive in nature and suffering from depression. A bunch of documents have been seized which reflect his mental state.

The police officials shared some pages from the diary of the accused which revealed that Lohar is a school dropout and was apparently fed up with his life.

He wrote, “I am 10% happy, having 0% love in life and 90% tension in life. I hate my life which only gives pain and waiting for death to restart my life.” The officials has confirmed that the accused has confessed his involvement in the murder of Hemant Kumar. More interrogation is taking place to reveal the motive of the act.

Forensic investigations are also analyzing the evidence found on the crime scene.
