Navi Mumbai police arrested a 37-year-old man for raping 12 women whom he used to meet on matrimonial sites.

The accused, identified as Mahesh alias Karan Gupta, is a mechanical engineer and had worked for different companies in the past.

To have intercourse with women, he created many fake ID’s on matrimonial sites. He primarily targeted educated women. He used to assault women in pubs and restaurants sexually.

He was arrested from the Mallad area in Navi Mumbai. The Mumbai police were looking for him for the last four months.

The accused used a different mobile number for every crime. He changed his SIM every time. Even to book cab rides using Ola or Uber, he would use different SIM cards and not the phone number registered in his name. He worked as a hacker some time ago and has good knowledge of computers. But he was using it in the wrong place,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Suresh Mengade was quoted as saying.

DSP Meade said that police only have information about 12 women victims who have been assaulted, but we are also looking at the possibility of finding other victims.

After the arrest, the accused was sent to the local court. The court granted his custody to the police for further inquiry.
