On Sunday, a priest, along with five others were held in the village area of Bengaluru for trying to sacrifice a 10-year-old girl to “ward off evil spirits” in an agricultural field.
Karnataka police registered the case under the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Bill, kidnapping, and criminal intimidation, as per a report in The New Indian Express.
On June 14, when the minor girl was playing in front of her house, neighbor Savithramma and Soumya took their daughter to a nearby field on the pretext of giving Prasada.
Parents in their complaint said they forced her to wear a garland and the accused started performing rituals.
The incident took place at Gandhi Grama near Nelamangala, she was living along with her grandmother, and her parents lived in Magadi, where they worked as laborers.
The woman, in her complaint, alleged that all five accused were present with the girl as they conducted some rituals. After rescuing the girl, police said that evidence suggests that the accused were trying to sacrifice her.
Accused in their defense said they took the girl for stone laying ceremony and said they want to build a temple in their field, and the priest had suggested getting the pooja performed by a minor girl.
The family members of the victim alleged that they are getting constant threats from the accused.
