A famous American rapper, Kirshnik Khari Ball, popularly known as ‘Takeoff’ was fatally shot during a private party at a bowling alley in downtown Houston on 1st November 2022.

Takeoff was 28 years old and a member of  Grammy-nominated hip hop trio Migos.

It has been reported that Takeoff was playing dice with fellow Migos member Quavo at around 2:30 am. It was the time when the Houston police were informed of an overnight shooting with one person dead at the scene, but would not confirm the victim’s identity until the family had been notified.

Officers with the Houston Police Department and emergency officials with the Houston Fire Department responded to reports of a shooting at 810 Billiards & Bowling, located at 1201 San Jacinto, around 2:40 a.m.

Two other people were also injured in the incident and are being treated at a local hospital.

According to TMZ there were 50 people at the bowling alley when the shooting took place. It has been reported that the shooting incident happened after an altercation and Takeoff was shot “either in the head or near his head”. The rapper was pronounced dead on the scene.

It has been said that an altercation broke out during a dice game and someone at the scene opened fire. Investigators said they found multiple shell casings on the third level outside the bowling and pool hall.

They are also looking at nearby surveillance video and asking for witnesses who ran from the scene to help with the investigation.

Police said security guards who were at the event heard the shooting but reportedly did not see who did it. Therefore no information about the suspects have been released by the police.

Hours before the shooting, Takeoff had posted a photo on his Instagram story of himself at the bowling alley. He had released the music video of his new song “Messy” the day before.

Takeoff was born on June 18, 1994, in Lawrenceville, Georgia and was the youngest in the Migos trio. The other members of the trio are Quavo, Takeoff’s uncle and Offset, his cousin.

The Atlanta-based Migos soared to prominence off their viral 2013 song “Versace,” which Drake remixed. It was 2016’s smash hit “Bad and Boujee” that first saw them hit number one.

Migos were one of the most influential groups of their generation, pioneering a style of rapping in choppy, staccato triplets known as the “Migos flow”.

Gucci Mane, Kid Cudi, Khalid and Dave posted tributes on social media, while Rick Ross called Takeoff a “young legend”.

Takeoff had told the outlet Complex, “I’m doing some melodic stuff. Even Quavo, he usually does the melodic things and I rap more, but we’re going back to the roots“.
