A 17 year old girl hanged herself after her parents could not give her a smartphone for attending online classes. The girl wanted to attend the online classes, but her parent’s financial condition did not allow them to purchase mobile.
The incident took place in Nanded’s Naigaon village of Maharashtra. The 17-year-old girl had secured 75 percent marks in her Class 10 examinations, and she needed a mobile phone to continue further studies.
After examinations of Class 10th, the girl asked her father, a daily wager, to buy a phone for her. With the father’s inability to buy a phone for her, the girl decided to end her life.
After the covid outbreak, cases similar to this have been reported across the world. In January this year, a 16-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh ended his life after his father refused to buy him a mobile phone. Upset over the same, the 16-year-old boy locked himself in his room before hanging himself to death.
